tradition- celebrate joy

food. what can be more traditional than the food at the holidays? here is a video walk through.

so I made a recipe holder to keep those old family recipes from my mom, gramma, and great gramma all together.

tried to keep this simple- a few inside pages to hold recipe cards. pictures. and favorite things that bring the best memories and holiday stories.

loved the cover of brown paper and the holly on the cover all layered up with felt, tea bag, and fabric with lace and ribbon all stitched together. my gramma had sent me a homemade holly Christmas card that I still have. I may have to move that card to this holder to keep it all together.

and here are a few of the recipes we would make at the holidays:

  • lefse

  • kolachi

  • knadle salad

  • peanut briddle

  • fudge

  • divinity

  • homemade pickles

  • popcorn balls

  • homemade buns and rolls

  • cookies

  • pies

there would also be that fun Christmas candy- the fun shapes and different flavors. you had to try a few to decide which ones you liked and then, you picked through the bowl to just savor those favorite ones. the house would be almost too warm because it was full of family and the oven and stove cooking to the point that you had to open a window to try and keep the temp down. and the card games. those were vicious but so much fun. there would be good conversations and everyone helping with the dishes afterward. it would take a team to clear the table, put the extra food into containers, and then, wash, rinse, dry and put away the dishes. all to do it again the next day when you would bring out all the leftovers and enjoy again. dig out a family favorite recipe and give it a try. let me know what you make!

happy holidays to each and every one of you. I am so thankful that you are here.

last blog post of this year. wishing you the best.
