Helloooooo

10K IG followers_alteredstatesstudio.jpg

Good morning! Hopping in here today to say thank you to YOU.….For following, comments and stopping by. I so appreciated all of the feedback on the collage video. (almost talked myself out of posting that….).

This last week i managed to hit 10K followers on my instagram. Seems so crazy to me! I shared a bit more about myself on that post. I thought I would share a bit more here with you on my blog.

Third generation artist. Grew up in an artsy home- my mom and gramma were always taking art classes and making stuff. Not to mention that my dad painted and did wood working.

Loved all things art growing up, but no faith in myself at the time thinking I could actually do anything with art. Started taking classes when I was in my mid-thirties and closer to my mom and gramma. We took week long classes from big name painters and I do believe that you need to understand the art basics to make things work. So thankful for that time! I sometimes had to hear those some of those concepts 2-3 times and a variety of ways for me to comprehend what was being said. When I was first painting and art journaling- I literally had to look at the color wheel to make a choice. I would start with one color, and would have to look at the color wheel to determine my next color every time until it became intuitive. A good color palette will hide a world of compositional sin. ;)

I am a saver of paper. All kinds almost- it is ridiculous as I am typing this and slurping coffee, I am looking at the corner of the counter…..and there are a variety of paper stacked and laying on the counter ready to be moved to the studio. Cardboard. Sewing directions. A wax bag. Receipts. Vintage papers pulled from elsewhere….. this corner is full.

I have always had a weird, quirky sense of style.

It has taken me a while to find my art voice. But we do all have one. If you are not sure, keep listening and be mindful about what things you notice and like. Why do you like that? Is it the color? Shape? Size? Keep asking yourself that question until you can narrow it down to the details. That is part of finding your own voice.

I had people comment and send questions of things they would like to hear more about from me….. my goal is try and answer some of those questions.

I was glad to see some support on the no condiments! :) I am not the only one…..and many coffee drinkers out there!! Tiffany Goff Smith almost ruined me with her fabulous coffee while I was there visiting here… and now back to my coffee reality- Which is not an expresso…..

Anyway…. I did also want to share that I did a flip through of a little book I made this last week. You can find the video here.

Thank you for being here!
