Painted papers (with mounting tutorial)
Kristin Peterson, Alteredstatesstudio
I am not always sure why, but I can tell you the feeling is almost overwhelming.
To get the feeling down onto paper. (soonish.)
Onto something.
Anything.
And that “what” may typically be what is first seen, or easily within reach.
This time, it happened to be a roll of paper.
From the thrift store?
Probably.
I do seem to have an infinity for paper rolls…. (shake my head as I am not sure why)
But, a love all the same.
Maybe it is the thought that I got this roll of paper for almost nothing that can provide the absolute freedom of painted will….
I had an immense amount of joy painting.
Paintbrushes in both hands. (and no I am not ambidextrous. Lol….that is part of the magic)
That dance between wet and dry paint.
Scratching through.
Rummaging [frantically?] looking for something else with a different size or ability to mark.
Rinsing away.
Letting the under layer peek through….
Then.
What really to do with the lovely painted paper?
The paper isn’t very wide.
I looked for wooden boards that were approximately that size of my paper and length of what I was considering for compositions.
Mounting would give the paper substance.
Increased validity?
(Rather than adding machine paper. Lol.)
Yes the paper is rather small, but this painted paper is packing a punch.
And, if you have ever put a frame around a painting….
You know the magic.
And if you have never done this…. Buy yourself a frame or make one. It will be almost life changing.
Even parts of the paper I didn’t think were too special, looked amazing once mounted onto the boards.
I have a couple of reels sharing part of the painting process you can watch here and here.
I thought I would share the mounting process in case people were interested. I shared them here.
And really, the sound of the boards when flipping through….
Delightful.
