Lesson in perseverance

Grabbing for whatever may be within reach.

Thin white cardboard.

Toffee ice cream bars to be exact.

The best ones are the actual Kroger brand.

Trust me when I say, we have tried them all.

Kroger are the best for the money- size wise, toffee chips wise, just the overall the right amount of everything.

Back to my story.

It started simply enough….

Pencil.

Paint.

More scribbles and a simple spray through the stencil.

No problem.

However.

It didn’t seem finished. Nagging. While it sat on the table in the studio.

Calling. Asking for more.

So.

Who I am to deny this poor paper its chance to really shine?!

I throw it through the sewing machine…. You know. Add a thread “frame.”

Maybe some masking tape.

And then, maybe a little collage? Sure. Still seems reasonable.

More paint.…. “To pull it together.”

And rinse a bit off. (always).

I sometimes get heavy-handed with the paint.

Looking back and watching the post is always this hindsight view, where you can just catch a glimpse of where it all went off the rails.

Too much water. A gentle rub. And that fateful first peel of the paper.

Too soft. Too much. As I started to peel the layers of the cardboard apart…..

Oh. Yeah. That part.

Really escalated quickly.

But, then I think- this is just another opportunity. You got this.

Collage.

Yes- more paper.

Layers of paper.

And I think to myself, you can save anything. Lol. But should I?

I was digging for papers and rediscovered the tissue paper I had bought at the holidays.

This tissue had fallen in with a stack of ne’er-do-well papers. (and those tend to run completely amok.)

But, just as I expected.

The tissue paper is delightful.

I wish I would have bough at least two packages now. But, that is how it goes. Use and appreciate what you have. Let it be seen. Stop saving it. *just as much a written reminder for myself; sometimes needs to be read or said out loud.

Continue making.
