In One’s Pocket
March 21 & 22, 2026 at Shake Rag Alley in Mineral Point, WI
Join Kristin in a mixed media papery menagerie. In this two-day class, we will be making zine-type books full of color, stitching, drips, art marks, folds, and creativity—paper pockets full of goodness! Our zine pages will be filled with exploratory drips and dribbles, stenciled or stamped, sewn fabric bits, art marks, collage, found words, ribbony sashes, and pieces of everyday magic. Let’s do our own storytelling in these little books. As we make our zines and fill the pockets, we will explore composition and the visual appeal, while having a mindful conversation about color. This class is suitable for all experience levels, as we will walk on the side of permission. Material Fee includes: XL paper, stencils, stamps, sewing machines, fabric dyes, pieces of rubber block for carving stamps, possibly cyanotype depending on weather.

Join Kristin Peterson on a mixed media canvas patchwork exploration. In this one day class, we will be playing with various substrates. Fabric, paper, canvas. Glue, stitches, color. There is permission to mix textures and share layers with our own sense of style while being mindful of our overall composition. We will find our own art marks. Pencils, pens, crayons, inks, sprays… Our pieces will embrace the creative magic as we leave that inner critic at the door. So bring along your curiosity and sense of wonderment. This class is suitable for all experience levels, as we will walk on the side of permission.
Punching with Purpose: Tactile Symbols for Hope & Healing
June 3-7, 2026 at Squam Lake, Holderness, NH
In this hands-on, heart-led class, you’ll explore the ancient art of symbol-making through punch needle embroidery. Using yarn and your own intuitive creativity, you’ll create soft, textured works that hold personal meaning through symbols of healing, empowerment, and hope. Whether you stitch a circle, a sigil, a word, or an abstract form, each loop becomes part of a larger story of how you can reclaim your confidence as a maker with a voice.
This class is perfect for beginners and seasoned creatives. You’ll learn basic punch needle techniques and leave with a small finished piece (or two) that can serve as a home altar adornment, a pocket charm, a soft shield for your creative spirit, or a gentle reminder of your time at the Lake.
Once we learn how to prepare our hoop and use the tools, we will gather around a cozy fire for healing conversations about creativity, life, and all the things we love. The combination of projects and creative sanctuary will help send you back into the world feeling more hopeful and more creative than maybe you have in a long time.
Experience Level: This class is suitable for all experience levels, as we will walking on the side of permission.
LOOPS & LAYERS: Intro to Punch Needle at the Textile Arts Center of Madison
Saturday, May 16th at 1pm-4pm
In this class, we will learn punch needle making a small but mighty coaster. These miniature canvases are the perfect way to master the fundamentals without the pressure of a large-scale project.
We will spend the first part of class demystifying the "kit"—navigating the specific relationships between needle sizes, yarn weights, and the different types of foundation fabrics (like monk’s cloth vs. linen). You’ll learn why tension is your best friend and how to troubleshoot the common "oops" moments that every beginner faces.
By the end of the class, you won't just have a handmade, tactile coaster; you’ll have an understanding of the supplies and the confidence to start your own punching practice at home.
No prior textile experience is required—just bring your curiosity and a love for things that feel as good as they look!
